PRESS RELEASE: PILGRIMAGE EXCURSION TO DRAMA AND KAVALA 13/06/2026

19 June 2026 · 1 min read

On Saturday 13/06 the United Romiosyni Youth of Xanthi carried out a pilgrimage outing to Drama and Kavala. Setting off in the morning from Xanthi, we made our first stop at the monastery of Saint Menas in Perichora, Drama. During our veneration in the monastery's katholikon, one of the sisters recounted the history of the monastery to us.
Our next stop, again in the prefecture of Drama, was at the monastery of Saint George Karslidis in Sipsa. There we had the joy of meeting some of the members of ERO Drama and of all venerating together the relics of Saint George. As at the previous monastery, so here too, one of the nuns recounted to us in a most vivid manner the astonishing story of this wonderworking Saint from Argyroupolis of Pontus.
There followed one more pilgrimage to the church of the Five Martyrs in Polystylo. The church was indeed impressive, with a rich iconostasis and wall paintings in very vivid colours.
In Nea Peramos there followed a lunch together with the Youth of ERO in Drama and Kavala. At this meeting we also had the opportunity to talk and to exchange experiences from what we have lived in the association of United Romiosyni in each one of these cities and to plan new meetings.
Our day ended with a visit to the Holy Monastery of Saint Panteleimon in Chrysokastro, Kavala. After the conclusion of the vespers service, we had the joy of helping the nuns serve sweet treats to the faithful. Before our departure we venerated the tomb of the founder of the monastery, Elder Philippos, of Eldress Lydia and of the Nun Makrina.
